March- The Environmental Protection Agency Windmill
Since the environmental protection agency helps to preserve nature, it has a windmill to help them instead of electronics or gases that harm nature.
April- The First Harwinton Oval Office
In the mid 1700’s in Harwinton, they didn’t have indoor plumbing, so when they had “GO” they had to walk outside and go to that little shack to do it. It was too far in the winter and too close in the summer.
May- The Theodore A. Hungerford Library
The T. A. Hungerford Library is where most of Harwinton’s historical artifacts are kept.
June-The Swimming Hole Road Bridge
This bridge was built in the late 1800’s, then rebuilt in the mid 1900’s with cement.
July-The Harwinton Church
The Harwinton church was first built in the early to mid 1800’s, but when lightning struck the church on July 20, 1949, the whole church burned to the ground. In 1951, this church was rebuilt, and on August 15, 1959, the bell from the original church was hoisted up on top of the newly rebuilt church.
August-Delay Road Farm
The delay farm is on Delay Rd. and run by “Farmer Delay”. 3 out of 4 seasons, he sells fruits and veggies of every kind. He used to own double the property that he owns now, but when money was tight, he had to sell half his land, which is now the Harwinton golf course.
September-The Historical Society Barn Museum
Although this building is not in itself historical, it is filled with a lot of Harwinton’s agricultural artifacts.
October-The Harwinton Fairgrounds
The Harwinton Fair has been around since 1853. People from all around the state and even country come from all over to show off their skills, creativeness, and livestock.
November-The Harwinton Community Hall
The Harwinton community hall was originally the first town hall of Harwinton; built in 1916
December-The Old School House
The old school house speaks for itself, in this picture, it is decorated for Christmas in Harwinton.
